Art and nature intersect
   Kathy Hodge
Art From The Parks, In Newport
DeBlois Gallery, Newport, August 6 to 30, 2005
Painter Kathy Hodge, who works from a studio in East Providence, has spent time in six different national parks as an artist-in-residence. Each place, from the Rocky Mountains to the Badlands of South Dakota to Cape Cod's National Seashore, inspired her. From each experience, she created a distinctive body of work, along with poetic journals and sketchbooks that describe her adventures. From staying in a secluded beach shack with no electricity, to meetings with snakes and buffaloes, to conversations with park rangers and fellow travelers, her stories and pictures take you to these last wild places.
The picture, "Monuments," is from Kathy's Badlands series.
