A gorgeous night for the Sky |

Tonight is looking to be one of the best-looking Tuesday nights in a very long time for our friends over at the Ladd Observatory. Starting at 8 p.m., the 12-inch refractor will check out both the planet Saturn and the waxing gibbous Moon, amid what looks to be severe-clear night skies. Portable telescopes will be arrayed on the deck, and in the library, you can catch a short presentation about light pollution.
Of course, just about every night is a good night to look up into the sky. If you took a look last night, you would have seen a low broken layer of luminous white clouds, with the bright moon glowing behind them, and a few stars shining through the cracks. Give this a try: Sometime after dark, turn off your noisemaking devices for a few minutes, open the door or a window, and stick your head out there. Take a deep breath of night air, check out the clouds, the stars, the moon, the wind, the sounds, the aromas. It's a wondrous free show, every night on Earth.
