We have more forests today in Rhode Island than we did 100 years ago -- a fact that's surprising at first glance, but when you realize that much of the state was farmland back then, it makes sense. But that doesn't mean the forests we have now are safe. In fact, our forested acreage has been in decline since the 1960s, and we've lost about 75,000 acres of trees.
Projo reporter Paul Davis took an in-depth look at the state of our forests. The story ran back in mid-August, when a lot of us might have missed it, so here's the link for catching up. Well worthwhile!
Can you see the forest for the trees?
