A new disease is killing bats in the Northeast, killing thousands in New York and threatening populations in Vermont and Rhode Island, the Environment News Service reports. Democratic Councilmen Seth Yurdin and Cliff Wood have asked the Providence City Council to commit to reduce Rhode Island global warming-related pollution 20 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050, versus levels in 1990, the projo reports.
