Education Program Instructor, Roger Williams Park Zoo Job Description This position directly reports to the Manager of School Programs. Primary responsibilities include teaching zoomobile and preschool programs as well as curriculum development. RESPONSIBILITIES Instructor responsibilities * Instruct Zoomobiles * Instruct Preschools and Wild Beginnings * Participate in Winter and Spring ZooCamps as a counselor * Assistant Director for ZooCamp on the Move during summer months - 11 to 13 year old travel day camp * Curriculum development for various programs in education department * Other duties as assigned Program Animals * Co-ordinate Education Animal Enrichment program. Duties include: acting as education representative on Zoowide Enrichment Committee; acting as co-coordinator for the docent education animal enrichment service area; submitting enrichment forms for approval; scheduling enrichment; documentation of performed enrichment; evaluation of enrichment. * Works with Manager of Family Programs, Animal Care Staff, veterinarians, and Active Environments (behavior consultant) to assist with training (using operant conditioning) of program animals. Duties include, but may not be limited to: development of training plans, acting as lead trainer or secondary trainer, proper documentation of training sessions, and evaluation of training. * Works with Manager of Family Programs to ensure animal handling training includes proper behavior management techniques and practices. * Other duties as assigned CRITERIA: * Bachelors degree in Education, Biology, Ecology or related field * Minimum of two (2) years experience in informal education * Experience working with volunteers * Experience teaching various age groups and special needs * Extremely strong oral and written communication skills * Flexible schedule (Tuesday through Saturday) * Experience and comfort with animal handling & behavioral management * Energetic and motivated individual * An appreciation for informal, lifelong learning in agreement with RWPZ's mission and commitment to education and conservation If interested send resume and cover letter to: Rob Upham, Roger Williams Park Zoo, 1000 Elmwood Ave, Providence, RI 02907 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Deadline for submission June 30th.
