Manager of Family Programs
Job Posting



The Manager of Family Programs is responsible for all fee-based family
programs as well as managing the education/presentation aspects of the
Program Animal Collection. The Manager of Family Programs reports
directly to the Director of Education.



RESPONSIBILITIES:



Family Programs

*       Manage all fee-based family programs including overnight, Bug
Club, Roots & Shoots, scout, and travel programs.  This involves
coordination of staffing, program development, evaluation, budgeting,
and all other aspects of program oversight.  It also includes
instruction of some of these programs.
*       Work with PR/Marketing and Program Registrar to effectively
promote Family Programs through the website, brochures, and other
vehicles.
*       Work with Director of Education in strategically planning Family
Program portfolio.



Program Animal Collection Coordination

*       Work with Education Director, Deputy Director of Animal
Programs, and Lead Keeper to maintain a program animal collection plan
that meets department needs.
*       Work with Lead Keeper to create and manage training and
enrichment plans for all program animals.
*       Work with Lead Keeper to establish handling and use guidelines
and protocols for program animal collection.
*       Create and maintain program animal fact sheets.
*       Manage animal handling certification program to ensure high
standards are maintained and protocols are followed consistently by
staff and volunteers.
*       Coordinate Docent Animal Handling Trainer team.
*       Maintain animal usage logs and reports.
*       Manage animal encounters requested by Group Sales, Marketing or
other Zoo departments.






Zoo Camp


*       Oversee complete operation of camp programs for youth ages 4-17.
This includes but is not limited to the hiring, training, management,
and evaluation of seasonal camp staff; development of all camp
curricula; assisting Program Registrar with camp registration process;
management of the CIT program; budgeting; supply maintenance; and
program evaluation.

*       Work with PR/Marketing and Program Registrar to effectively
promote Zoo Camp
*       Oversee the efforts of other department staff that lead the
Tadpole Academy (preschool) and Zoo Camp on the Move (teen) camp
programs.








CRITERIA

*       Bachelors degree in Education, Biology, Ecology or related field
*       Minimum of two (2) years experience in project/program
development and management
*       Minimum of two (2) years experience in informal education
*       Minimum of two (2) years experience working with program animal
handling, training, and enrichment
*       Experience supervising staff and volunteers
*       Extremely strong oral and written communication skills
*       Masters degree desired
*       Very strong organizational skills
*       Ability to work some nights and weekends
*       An appreciation for informal, lifelong learning in agreement
with RWPZ's mission and commitment to education and conservation
