Urban & Community Forestry Coordinator
For the RI Urban & Community Forestry Program
 
The Rhode Island Resource Conservation and Development Area Council, Inc. (RIRC&D)
is seeking candidates 
for the position of Urban & Community Forestry Coordinator. This is the key position in
 the cooperative partnership 
between the RIRC&D and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management
 - Division of Forest 
Environment (RIDFE) and serves under the direction of the RC&D Coordinator of the
 RIRC&D, and under the 
supervision of the state forester or her designee. This position requires 35 hours per
 week with some flexibility 
and statewide travel. Headquarters are in North Scituate, Rhode Island at the offices
 of RIDFE. Starting salary
 is $44,000, plus employer contribution of health benefits annually.
 
Job Description
This is professional, interdisciplinary work involved in administering
The Rhode Island Urban & Community Forestry Program, with the goal of
promoting the economic, environmental, and aesthetic values of community
 forest ecosystems. Duties involve many 
aspects of community forestry, including providing technical assistance to 
communities, conduct training and 
workshops, coordination of statewide Arbor Day celebrations, coordination with 
statewide groups and organizations, 
scheduling of events, coordination of meetings, maintain partnerships with various 
groups and/or organizations, 
coordinate and develop targets in RI communities to carry out the state’s Urban & 
Community Forestry Resource Plan, 
prepare reports on findings and recommendations, and the administration of the 
state community and organizations
grant program. Frequent statewide travel and evening and weekend work are required. 
 
Experience, Education and Skills Required:

1. A Master’s Degree from an accredited university with specialization in Forestry

or a related subject; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with specialization in Forestry

or a related subject and

one year of full time professional experience in forestry or arboricultural work; or
3.  Education and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in  “1”, or “2” above;
5. Valid Driver’s license; and

6. Certification as a RI Licensed Arborist or an ISA Certified Arborist or have the ability to

obtain one (1) of the above within six (6) months of hiring;

7. Experience in public presentations and managing stakeholder groups;

8. Excellent oral and written communication skills;

9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office

10. Available for statewide travel and evening and weekend work

Preference given to those with willingness to think 
creatively and demonstrate 
initiative; experience in public presentations and 
managing stakeholder groups,
 including ability to convey complex issues to a wide 
range of listeners; 
demonstrated ability to manage and lead project teams 
constructively and 
productively; and ability to independently set/meet 
deadlines and complete 
multiple projects over long time periods.
