Saving Energy Is Hot! Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 November 2008

Rhode Islanders are definitely eager to save all the energy they can -- that was clear last Sunday, when more than 5,500 people showed up for the first URI Energy Expo. "The event really made a statement that people are ready and want renewable energy development here in the state," said Chris Kearns, director of Environment Rhode Island and one of the show organizers.

About 80 exhibitors spoke with visitors about energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean energy alternatives, and more. Exhibitors were amazed by the large turnout -- quite a few ran out of handouts after the first few hours. The workshop rooms were packed to overflowing.

"It really was a great day and something I was proud that I could be a part of," said Chris. "The credit though needs to go to the URI Energy Center and the Energy Fellowship students. I just want to thank Marion, Wendy, Rachel, Hannah, and all of those who spent so much time making the event such a success!" The event is a great way to educate and inform Rhode Islanders about their energy options, and we hope it grows even bigger next year.
