5 Steps, 5 Years To Fight Global Warming Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 August 2008
Climate change is a global issue, but lots of steps can be taken on a local level that can make a difference. The folks at Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) have come up with Five Steps that all of us in New England can take over the next Five Years, to help meet the challenge. We can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, CLF says -- click on "More..." for the CLF strategy to get us there.

Here's CLF's plan for New England, in a nutshell...

Step One -- Quit building highways and invest in mass transit instead.

Step Two -- Invest $1 billion in energy efficiency to dramatically reduce waste.

Step Three -- Build 2,000 megawatts of new wind power in New England.

Step Four -- Shut down at least two of our nasty coal-fired power plants, or at least convert them to cleaner fuels.

Step Five -- Mandate pollution reductions via new legislation, and require that climate impacts must be a factor in permits for new construction and development.

That all sounds quite reasonable and achievable to us. For more details, and to show your support to CLF by signing their online pledge (there is no cost involved), click here.
