The national election has been soaking up a lot of our attention, but not to forget, we will also be voting for our local reps in the General Assembly on Nov. 4. These choices are vitally important -- when it comes to environmental action, most of the important stuff gets done at the local level. So when it's time to make that choice, having an endorsement from our local eco groups can be an important factor. This week, Clean Water Action released its list of endorsed candidates for the General Assembly, click on "More..." for the details.
Clean Water Action Endorses Environmental Candidates for General Assembly Electoberfest at Trinity Brewhouse to benefit group’s election organizing Providence—The grassroots environmental group Clean Water Action announced their endorsement of twenty one candidates for General Assembly today. “Clean Water Action staff and volunteers are working in these districts to make sure our candidates win their races on November 4,” said Sheila Dormody, Rhode Island director of Clean Water Action. “We are contacting our members by going door-to-door, making phone calls, mailing letters and sending emails to let them know there is a strong environmental candidate in their race and to urge them to get out to vote.” The organization has 30,000 members in Rhode Island. “These candidates have earned Clean Water Action’s endorsement by standing up for clean energy, protecting our water supply, and preventing pollution at its source,” said Dormody. “We need strong leaders like these to take on the challenges facing Rhode Island to protect our environment and to bring green jobs to the state.” The group also announced its 3rd biannual Electoberfest scheduled for this Thursday, October 16, 2008 from 6:30-8:30pm at Trinity Brewhouse in Providence. Proceeds from the event will benefit Clean Water Action’s work both to elect pro-environment candidates and to pass and enforce laws to protect Rhode Island’s environment.
